Welcome to our school

Flotta Community School is currently closed. The school was mothballed due to there being no young children on the island.

Flotta Primary school is situated about a mile and a half from the pier. It has surrounding garden space, planted by the pupils, a playground and a sports field. The main classroom is bright and spacious and there is also a large hall, a dining room and a converted classroom used for storage by both community and school.

Music, Art and PE teachers visit for a full day every fourth week, while the drama teacher visits once a term and at other times as required.

The school has a Parent Council.

The school aims to create a happy, well structured and self disciplined environment where each child has the opportunity to achieve his/her potential morally, physically and intellectually. The small numbers in the school allow for a high level of independent, individualized learning with scope for sharing experiences in environmental studies, the arts and sport. Assessment and ICT feature strongly as priorities in this year’s School Development Plan with a strong focus on formative assessment

Photographs of the pupils’ achievements are well displayed in the school. There is a good working atmosphere both in the classroom and around the school. The pupils relate well to each other and are supported by a dedicated staff who strive to create a challenging learning atmosphere in the school and opportunities to extend their learning out with the school whenever possible.

The school has very good teaching resources and a good range of sport, art and music equipment.

The pupils are encouraged to take a pride in their environment and enjoy planting and tending the school garden.
